Q&A Richard Carter

Richard Carter – Managing Director

How long have you been working for Carters?

Started January 1979!

What’s your typical day at Carters?

Every day is different, but typically, check emails/ reply.....the day will then develop, could be meeting customers, ordering raw materials, accountancy work, working on the shop floor, or driving the forklift. Anything is possible and no day is the same.

What’s the best thing about working at Carters?

It’s a Small family owned business (I’m 8th Generation), and we are successful in what is an unfashionable trade. I like having the ability to influence staff in all different areas of the Company; which is still developing even after 277 years, we still have lots of new and exciting ideas/ projects to be working on, which will hopefully lead to another 277 years in business!

If you had to take one Tool to a desert island what would it be and why?

I would have to take a Grubbing Mattock.....you can do just about anything with it!

If you didn’t work for Carters what would you do instead?

At my age retire!

I would have loved to have been a professional sportsman’s in either cricket or golf - however I’m too old now and not good enough unfortunately, but I still want to pursue a hobby involving Art and learn to play the drums!

If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

New Zealand – looks stunning without the nasties of Australia!
